Elder Care in Hunterdon NJ

On May 18th, museums all across the globe are recognized for International Museum Day.  Without museums, the public would not have access to history’s finest works of art, technology, science,Elder-Care-in-Hunterdon-NJ and more.  Many museums have something for everyone.  They can be places for children to learn new things, adults to appreciate works of art they’ve never seen before, and for elderly adults to continue to learn and discover.  To celebrate International Museum Day, why not go on an outing with your elderly loved one to a museum sometime during the month of May?  It can be a fun and mentally stimulating activity for both of you!  When accompanying your elderly loved one to a museum, keep in mind these helpful tips:

Call Ahead

If you have concerns about the museum’s wheelchair accessibility, it is a good idea to call the museum before you go and ask all of your questions.  Be sure to also ask about handicapped parking and if they have an elevator if there are multiple floors.  Does the museum have a senior discount?  You won’t know until you ask!

Check the Website

In order to thoroughly plan out your trip before you go, browse the museum’s website.  Usually the website has information such as ticket prices, hours, and it may list any special events, shows or exhibits that may be going on.  The website may also include a map so that you and your loved one can make a plan for which exhibits you will visit or skip and in which order.

Take Breaks

Museum visits can often require a lot of walking.  While this is certainly a great way for you and your loved one to get exercise, it is important for your loved one to take breaks when they feel tired.  Museums often have many places to sit down and enjoy the art or artifacts, so your loved one can still soak up all the museum has to offer despite taking a few breaks.

Avoid Crowded Days and Times

If you are able, try to avoid visiting the museum on days or times when it is typically very crowded.  Try going on a weekday instead of the weekend to avoid crowds that can make seeing the exhibits more difficult.  When you go during a slower time, you and your loved one will be better able to take your time and enjoy the exhibits without feeling swallowed up by the crowd.
