Home Care in Warren NJ

When your elderly parent is receiving home care sometimes it can feel as though their life becomes a routine of just meeting their needs. You interact with their in home health care services Home-Care-in-Warren-NJprovider to ensure that they are getting the care, support, and assistance that they need, and you know that that care provider plans activities with them. Sometimes, however, you want to feel like you are an active and engaged part of your parent’s care. Planning fun experiences that you can enjoy with your parent as well as your children, your partner, and even your parent’s care provider can be extremely meaningful. Not only will you have fun, but you will reaffirm your connection to your parent, reassure them that you love them and are there for them, and create memories that you cherish well into the future.

June 6 is Drive-In Movie Day. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to shake up your routine and do something fun with the entire family that lets you take advantage of the warmer temperatures and more casual pace of summer. By planning an event that is reminiscent of visiting a drive-in you can create a memorable experience, but also trigger memories and feelings of nostalgia in your aging parent that can help to strengthen and stimulate their cognitive and memory skills.

Let these ideas inspire you for creating your own Drive-In Movie Day celebration:

  • Head outside. The best way to emulate a drive-in movie is to actually head outside and watch a movie in the fresh air. Projectors are often available for rent and the company can teach you how to stream a movie from your computer through the projector, enabling you to put that movie up on the side of the house, the garage door, or even a large sheet hung up between trees. Set up some folding chairs or pull pickup trucks or convertibles up for an authentic experience.
  • Create a “concession stand”. Your parent can tell you that no visit to the drive-in was complete without a trip or two to the concession stand for movie snacks. Set up a table in the home that has plenty of snacks for everyone to enjoy. Choose classics such as individual servings of popcorn and candy, or go for something more elevated and unique such as miniature sandwiches, fresh fruit and vegetables, or nut mix.
  • Talk about it. Encourage your parent to share their memories of drive-in theaters with your children. Have them talk about what it was like to go to these movies, the shows that they saw in them, and how much fun they used to have at this social occasion. Not only will this give your parent a chance to work their mind, but it will also help your children feel like they know their grandparent better.

Having your parent’s in home health care services provider available at this event can be extremely helpful. They can act as an extra set of eyes and hands to give your parent the support and assistance that they might need to fully enjoy the movie while you are able to take care of your children or just relax and enjoy the show without worrying.
